Blockbuster's New Holiday TV Spots Tout Gift Cards, DVDs, Games29 Nov, 2001 By: Joan Villa
Blockbuster is rolling out a new series of 30-second holiday TV spots featuring an elf who sings Elvis songs as a light-hearted advertisement for gift cards and new DVD and game releases.
“An elf impersonating Elvis is just the right combination of nostalgia and quirkiness to keep viewers engaged,” says advertising v.p. Scott Parks.
The chain has also launched a new loyalty program that rewards customers with “Freebie Points” that appear on members’ receipts after each purchase. The accumulated points can be redeemed for free movie or game rentals or other products and services from Blockbuster and other Freebie retailers.
