Blockbuster Undercuts Basic Netflix Plan by $131 Dec, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Blockbuster Inc. ushered in 2008 by offering its basic monthly by-mail DVD rental plan for $3.99 — $1 less than a similar plan from rival Netflix Inc.
The move comes just days after the Dallas-based DVD rental service announced monthly rate hikes (from $2 to $10) for most of its Total Access rental plans.
The $3.99 plan allows one DVD movie at-a-time (selected online) and up to two titles per month. The $4.99 Netflix plan includes five hours of content streaming on your PC.
Both plans, which deliver DVDs in one-to-two days, do not charge late fees and include free shipping.
