Blockbuster Stores Accepting Donations for Hurricane Victims19 Aug, 2004 By: Holly J. Wagner
Blockbuster will serve through Sept. 6 as an American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund cash donation site to benefit victims of Hurricane Charley.
Customers may make minimum $1 contributions to the fund at any of Blockbuster's 4,500 company-operated stores in the U.S.
“We contacted the American Red Cross to find out how Blockbuster could assist the victims and agreed that designating all of our U.S. stores as official cash donation sites would be the most convenient and effective way to reach those who want to make a contribution,” Blockbuster president and COO Nigel Travis said.
“We are thrilled with Blockbuster's immediate response to our call for support of our disaster relief efforts,” said Skip Seitz, SVP of growth and integrated development of the American Red Cross. “Americans don't like to see others suffer, and they are looking for a way to help. Blockbuster is making it easier for its customers and employees to help the Red Cross provide food, shelter, counseling and other relief services.”
The American Red Cross has dispatched 121 Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs), and Red Cross disaster workers and volunteers are working to provide safe refuge, food, and emergency physical and mental health services for those dealing with trauma from the storm.
