Blockbuster Signs Deal With Media 810 Dec, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Seeking to ups its profile as a supplier of independent rental fare, Blockbuster Inc. has inked a business partnership with Media 8 Entertainment.
Los Angeles-based Media 8 is a producer and financing company of independent theatrical releases. Its current slate includes comedy The Ramen Girl with Brittany Murphy, Eichmann with Franka Potente (The Bourne Supremacy), Wizard of Gore (Crispin Glover), horror film Mulberry Street, and The Upside of Anger with Kevin Costner and Joan Allen, among others.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Matthew Smith, SVP media development and studios with Blockbuster, said the arrangement strengthened Media 8's commercial prospects on future projects while enhancing Blockbuster distribution prowess.
Blockbuster spokesperson Randy Hargrove reiterated that the No. 1 rental company was not acquiring Media 8.
“We'll continue to carry Media 8 Entertainment films in our stores once they are released to home entertainment,” Hargrove said.
