Blockbuster Promotes Two, Hires Three

Blockbuster Inc. has promoted Anuraj Goonetilleke to VP of finance and strategic analysis, budgeting and planning. He will be in charge of customer analytics, budgeting, planning and finance for Blockbuster's North American and international ventures. Goonetilleke has worked for the company for more than eight years and most recently served as senior director, finance and strategic analysis.

James Whatley, former VP of franchise operations and administration, has been promoted to VP of global franchise and international corporate operations. In his new position, in addition to directing operations for the company's 900 U.S. franchise stores, he will also be responsible for the corporate, franchised and licensed operations for about 3,000 Blockbuster stores in the 19 international markets outside North America.

Kathleen Walsh has been hired as VP of corporate services, and Michael Debnar as been hired as VP of retail applications. Walsh most recently was an independent IT consultant for several companies and served as VP of IS strategy and business solution design for 7-Eleven. Her new duties include directing corporate IT applications and IT compliance and information security. Debnar will be responsible for the re-architecture and delivery of all new retail systems functionality. He most recently served as director of retail business process for 7-Eleven.

Kim Alleman has been hired to serve as SVP of human resources. Her new duties will include overseeing benefits, compensation, human resource management systems, organizational growth and training for all corporate and field employees. Most recently Alleman was a consultant with Buck Consultants and also served as SVP human resources for VHA Inc., a Dallas-based privately held health care provider.
