Blockbuster Online Revenue Up 64%

Blockbuster Online, the Web-based subscription movie rental service of Blockbuster Inc., posted second-quarter (ended June 30) revenue of $57.6 million, compared to $35.2 million during the same period last year.

The online service, which claims about 1.4 million subscribers, accounted for 5.8% of overall rental revenue, compared to 3.5% last year, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Aug. 9.

In-store movie rentals decreased to $688.4 million, from $722.3 million, or 69.5% of total revenue, compared to 71.1% of revenues last year.
