Blockbuster Goes National With Rent It! Like It! Buy It!

Blockbuster Inc. is going nationwide with its “Rent it! Like it! Buy it!,” program that lets Blockbuster members "test-drive" a DVD through rental and then receive a deep discount on that movie if they decide to buy it.

The program kicks off in more than 4,300 participating US stores today. Customers who rent a selected new DVD release and return it within the appropriate rental period will have the opportunity to purchase a previously viewed copy of that DVD title at a discount. Customers can take advantage of this discount, in some cases up to 60 percent off the original retail price when previously viewed copies of that title become available for sale and while supplies last.

Complete details will be printed on the customer's rental receipt, however, the receipt is not necessary to redeem this offer.

"'Rent it! Like it! Buy it!' is the type of consumer-friendly program we believe only Blockbuster can offer," said JimNotarnicola, EVP and chief marketing officer for Blockbuster. "Research by Blockbuster shows that almost 80 percent of consumers who own DVD movies have seen a movie before they bought it. This new program provides customers with a near risk-free opportunity to experience a movie before they invest in buying it."

Customers interested in renting a “Rent it! Like it! Buy it!” title must do so within its first four weeks of release to qualify for the program.
