Blockbuster Inc. is furthering its commitment to used movies and games with the announcement today the chain has named Gary A. Ross to EVP and president, Emerging Brands.
Ross will be responsible for developing and operating new retail store concepts and will oversee Blockbuster acquisition Movie Trading Company, a multistore chain specializing in buying, selling, renting and trading movies and games.
"Our goal is to become the complete source for movies and games and in addition to enhancing our core rental and retail business, we are looking to either develop or acquire home entertainment retail concepts that capitalize on potentially high growth categories like movie and game trading," said Antioco. "I'm looking forward to working with Gary and drawing on his extensive experience in the retail industry to successfully implement our strategy."
Ross joins Blockbuster with 25 years of retail experience and a background developing startup companies. From 1984 to 2000 he held key executive level management positions at Musicland, including president of its movie division, Suncoast. Prior to that, he was EVP of Operations at The Gap. Ross has also served as past chairman of the Video Software Dealers Association.
Ross reports to Blockbuster chairman and CEO John Antioco. Ross received his undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Denver and his MBA from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
