'Blades of Glory' In ‘Second Life' Promotion

9 Aug, 2007 By: Chris Tribbey

A virtual reality promotion lets Second Life players celebrate the home video release of "Blades of Glory."

Paramount Home Entertainment is throwing a party to celebrate the DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray releases of the $100-plus million comedy Blades of Glory.

But you'll have to be virtual to get into the door for this one.

In a promotion with the virtual reality Internet game Second Life, Paramount will hold DVD release parties at a dozen skating rinks within the game from Aug. 24 through the end of the month. The DVD streets Aug. 28. Visitors to the party will be able to don free virtual replica costumes from the film, and wear ice skates that will allow them to perform singles and pairs tricks from the movie. Here's hoping they have better luck than the Koreans.

Additionally, Second Life players who visit all 12 skating rinks will be entered into a drawing where the grand prize consists of 10,000 Linden dollars (the Second Life currency that actually has real-world value), a sporting goods store certificate and a Blades of Glory DVD. Second and third place prizes include 1,000 Linden dollars and a DVD.
