BitTorrent Releases CE Software Kit

18 Jun, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel

BitTorrent June 18 made available a software development kit (SDK) designed to assist consumer electronics (CE) manufacturers of network storage devices (NAS), set-top boxes and digital-media adapters, among others.

The San Francisco-based file-sharing network eyes its software and pending certification program for CE companies as a veritable good housekeeping seal for digital products.

“Whether it's a NAS device, set-top box or wireless router, [our certification] stands for a better digital experience,” said Ashwin Navin, president and co-founder of BitTorrent.

Buffalo Inc., a Japanese-based developer of Internet-based networking storage systems, believes the certification program will bolster consumer adoption, according to Morikazu Sano, assistant GM, global marketing for Buffalo.

“We see BitTorrent as broadband's next ‘killer app,’ said Sano.
