Best Buy Offering NBC Samplers

25 Aug, 2004 By: Erik Gruenwedel

In association with last week's DVD release of The Apprentice: Season One from Universal Studios Home Video (USHV), more than 600 Best Buy locations nationwide have begun offering customers free DVD samplers of the upcoming NBC TV fall season lineup.

The six shows previewed are: “LAX,” “Hawaii,” “The Contender,” “Medium,” “Revelations” and “Medical Investigation.”

“It was an opportunity brought to us by Universal and NBC,” said Best Buy spokesperson Brian Lucas. “It's not the first time we have done something like this.”

He said Best Buy offered DVD samplers of Columbia Pictures' Hellboy prior to its theatrical release in April.

“They are both examples of unique promotional ideas to get content into our customers' hands,” Lucas said. “It's a nice way for us to offer our customers something unique.”

The NBC sampler and Apprentice DVD are also part of a national radio promotion among the top 75 stations for the upcoming second season of “The Apprentice,” on which 16 applicants compete for a $250,000 position within Donald Trump's business empire.

The five-disc first season DVD of “The Apprentice” includes 15 episodes, a behind-the-scenes look at boardroom confrontations between contestants and Trump's usual colorful comments.

“This effort is a result of the ongoing synergies being built between The NBC Agency marketing team and [USHV] team,” said Craig Kornblau, president of USHV.
