Best Buy to Closely Monitor Game Sales

3 Jun, 2005 By: Jessica Wolf

Best Buy is kicking off a new policy to restrict the sale of ‘Mature'-rated video games to minors in the wake of a shareholder resolution filed by Christian Brothers Investment Services.

The chain has agreed to implement a new mystery shopper program to ensure clerks are checking IDs when selling ‘M'-rated games; is requiring a signed agreement from all employees that they will implement company policy on the sale of such games; and will take disciplinary action against any employee discovered selling violent games to minors, according to Christian Brothers.

Best Buy's new policy also calls for increased signage advising consumers of game ratings, as well as signage that reminds clerks to check IDs.
