Baseball's Ultimate Rivalry on DVD17 Mar, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Team USA's lackluster performance in the ongoing inaugural World Baseball Classic could rapidly equal the declining fortunes of America's men's basketball team on the international stage.
But to most baseball diehards, the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox represent one of the greatest rivalries in sports. May 2 Shout Factory and Major League Baseball Productions will release Red Sox vs. Yankees: The Ultimate Rivalry on DVD at $19.98. Prebook is April 7.
From Babe Ruth to Bucky Dent, A-Rod and Jason Varitek to David Ortiz and Johnny Damon, the Red Sox and Yankees have in recent years made the American League East one of the most-watched divisions.
The DVD features exclusive audio narrations by both Red Sox manager Terry Francona and Yankee skipper Joe Torre. Fans of either team can click to hear their favorite manager's voice over the DVD.
“That's the coolest thing about this edition: interview access that other titles don't have,” said Shout spokesperson Amanda Hale.
Ultimate Rivalry focuses on the 2003 to 2005 seasons, including the 2004 American League Championship Series Game 7 final out and celebration. Other highlights include Carl Everett breaking up Mike Mussina's perfect game in 2001 and newsreel footage of the final weekend of the 1949 regular season.
Separately, Shout April 4 streets 2005 Houston Astros: The Championship Season on DVD at $19.98.
The 120-minute video (narrated by actor Dennis Quaid) showcases a tumultuous season that saw the Astros — 15 games out of first place on June 1 — come back and win the division on the last day of the season.
Available in both Spanish and English, the DVD features Cy Young pitcher Roger Clemens' three innings of relief in the memorable 18-inning National League Division Series Game 4 and Chris Burke's walk-off home run in the 18th inning, securing the 43-year-old franchise's first ever trip to the World Series.
