20 Mar, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Bandai Visual USA, a subsidiary of Japanese-based anime creator Bandai Visual Co., Ltd., June 26 will release Freedom Vol. 1, its first HD DVD title for $39.99.

Freedom's drama unfolds on the moon's surface in the city of Eden, the last human settlement, and focuses on a youth whose actions threaten to shake the freedom and peace of Eden.

Recently signed Geneon Entertainment will distribute the science fiction HD DVD/DVD combo release, which will simultaneously street in Japan online at www.dot-anime.com, an anime portal operated by Anime Channel Co., Ltd.

A longtime supporter of the next-generation optical disc format, Bandai Visual Co. partnered with Tokyo-based Memory-Tech Corp. and Microsoft Corp. to improve compression technology and visual clarity for anime packaged media.

Freedom, which is the first 3DCGI and 2D animation product of this collaboration, features an updated video codec specification (VC1) and HDi, an HD DVD interactive technology that allows for picture-in-picture, HD graphics and network capability.
