Artisan's ‘Stargate' to Open Again on DVD13 Dec, 2002 By: Brendan Howard
Artisan Home Entertainment's Stargate will make another journey to DVD Feb. 18.
This time, the sci-fi film -- which inspired a TV series of the same name available on home video from MGM Home Entertainment, and stars Kurt Russell and James Spader as human voyagers to a distant world ruled by an Egyptian-style tyrant -- comes in a two-DVD set as Stargate Ultimate Edition at $19.98.
The title prebooks Jan. 21. A VHS edition is also available at $14.98.
Consumers who bought the earlier Stargate Special Edition DVD will get a break, though: Artisan Home Entertainment is offering a $5 rebate by mail when they upgrade to the new edition.
The new release and a contest with partner Scifi.com for a trip for two to Las Vegas' Egypt-themed Luxor Resort and Casino will be featured in ads running in February and March issues of Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly and Starlog.
The double-disc set comes with newly remastered widescreen versions of the director's cut and the theatrical cut. Extras include audio commentary with the director and the producer; a making-of featurette with never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage; and an “Is There a Stargate?” featurette with Chariots of the Gods author Erich von Daniken.
