Arista Releases OutKast DVD

15 Dec, 2003 By: Erik Gruenwedel

It's been a heady month for rap act OutKast. The Arista recording group's two-CD set Speakerboxxx/The Love Below has been the No. 1 album in three of its six weeks on the Billboard charts.

The album also received six Grammy nominations, which will be awarded Feb. 8.

Capitalizing on that success, Dec. 16 Arista will debut OutKast: The Videos ($14.98 DVD), a compilation of 10 music videos, comprising 10 years in the recording business, that have never been released for sale separately, according to an Arista spokesperson.

In addition to “Hey Ya!” and “The Way You Move,” the DVD features music clips and videos of the following songs: “Player's Ball” (directed by Sean “Puffy” Combs), “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik,” “Elevators,” “ATLiens,” “B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad), “Ms. Jackson,” “The Whole World” and “So Fresh, So Clean.”

OutKast's 2000 release Stankonia went quadruple-platinum, which, when combined with Speakerboxxx, brings to-date U.S. shipments of those two albums to more than 14 million units, according to the Recording Industry Assoc. of America.

Last week the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a lower court ruling not allowing civil-rights icon Rosa Parks to proceed with a lawsuit against OutKast, in which she claimed the act used her name in a song without permission.
