Arcade Classic Bowing as First Blu-ray Video Game26 Mar, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Classic arcade video game Dragon's Lair April 9 will be re-released in the Blu-ray Disc format, the first game to be released in the next generation optical disc format using BD-Java, according to distributor Digital Leisure.
The 1983 arcade game, which has been digitally re-mastered in 5.1 Surround Sound by Toronto-based Digital Leisure and authored with Blu-ray Java for greater interactivity, will retail for $49.95.
Lair will be playable on the Sony PlayStation 3 game console in addition to any Blu-ray Disc player. A PC edition of the title in high-def was released last year.
“I've seen the newly restored footage and it just looks amazing,” said Don Bluth, co-creator of Dragon's Lair. “It looks even better than I can remember.”
All the special features on the disc are in 1080p resolution, including new interviews with creators Bluth, Gary Goldman and Rick Dyer, in addition to a feature length commentary of the game.
Digital Leisure plans to follow with the releases of Space Ace and Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp in the BD format.
