New Line Home Entertainment has achieved its highest level of annual shipments since it opened its doors more than 10 years ago, the supplier announced today.

Mega-hit The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Austin Powers in Goldmember, as well as strong catalog sales, muscled the studio to more than one billion in gross sales in North America, the studio said.

Foreshadowing a trend, DVD sales accounted for 74 percent of the total sales, New Line reported.

The Fellowship of the Ring is New Line's bestselling title of all time, with combined shipments of more than 22 million units. The extended edition has shipped well over 3 million units to date. Fellowship recorded 11.3 million DVD unit sales to consumers.

"We set out to create two distinct, compelling releases, with no content overlap," said Matt Lasorsa, New Line SVP of marketing. "We are pleased that we were able to satisfy both the fans of the theatrical release and Lord of the Rings aficionados."

Austin Powers in Goldmember, the latest in the infinifilm line that also includes an interactive revoice feature that enables DVD-ROM viewers to record their own voice into scenes from the film.

Other strong performers include Blade 2, John Q., I Am Sam and All About The Benjamins. Additionally, sales of catalog product grew significantly over the previous year New Line reported.

In addition to achieving sales success in 2002, New Line Home Entertainment garnered critical accolades for many of the films.

"New Line Home Entertainment enjoyed great results in 2002," said president and COO Stephen Einhorn. "The success can be directly attributed to New Line Home Entertainment's strong and diverse programming line-up, our dedication to creative and unique DVD content, creative marketing campaigns, and innovative sales and distribution strategies that have solidified New Line's position as a major force in the industry."
