April 4 is 'Crash' Day in L.A.4 Apr, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf
Tuesday morning, Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa anointed April 4 “Crash/Film L.A. Day” in the city.
The ceremony, timed to coincide with Crash's Director's Cut DVD Edition street date from Lionsgate Entertainment, celebrated the Oscar winner for being shot almost entirely within the city of Los Angeles.
"In the most diverse city in the world, we live and work side by side with people from different backgrounds, but we seldom talk about — and learn — from our differences,” said Villaraigosa. “Art is meant to provoke; Crash certainly has and will continue to do so for years to come."
The racially tense drama was the surprise winner of the Academy Award's best picture this year.
