He has been called The Maestro and The Italian Hitchcock, and May 27 Anchor Bay Entertainment releases The Dario Argento Box Set, celebrating the work of one of the most acclaimed horror filmmakers in modern history.
The five-film DVD collection includes Tenebre, Phenomena, Trauma, Do You Like Hitchcock? and The Card Player. It is available at $49.97 with an order date of April 24. Tenebre, starring Anthony Franciosa and John Saxon, is the story of a writer who discovers someone is using his books as inspiration for a series of murders. Bonus features include audio commentary with Argento, music composer Claudio Simonetti and journalist Loris Curci; three featurettes; and more.
Phenomena, starring Jennifer Connelly and Donald Pleasence, is about a girl who uses her gift of telepathically communicating with insects to solve a group of murders at her boarding school. The DVD includes audio commentary with Argento, Simonetti and Curci; the featurette “A Dark Fairy Tale”; Argento's appearance on “The Joe Franklin Show”; and more.
Trauma is about a girl who escapes from a psychiatric ward, only to end up on the run from her parents' killer. The film stars Argento's daughter Asia Argento, Piper Laurie, Frederic Forrest and Brad Dourif. Special features include audio commentary, behind-the-scenes footage and more.
Do You Like Hitchcock? is an homage to Alfred Hitchcock, starring Elio Germano and Chiara Conti. The DVD has a behind-the-scenes featurette and an Argento biography.
Stefania Rocca and Liam Cunningham star in The Card Player, about a Roman policewoman and a British Interpol agent who team to hunt a serial killer. Bonus features include audio commentary, two featurettes and more.
Tenebre and Phenomena are also available individually for $19.97 each.
