American Greetings Teams With Fox

20 Jun, 2007 By: John Latchem

American Greetings Properties (AGP), the intellectual property and outbound licensing division of American Greetings Corp., and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment have expanded their current partnership with a long-term deal.

The new agreement grants Fox exclusive North American marketing and distribution rights to several AGP properties being developed into animated series.

Leading the way are “Sushi Pack,” which chronicles the adventures of five crime-fighting pieces of sushi, and the all-new “Care Bears” series.

Both animated programs will debut this fall as part of CBS' Saturday morning lineup.

Fox also obtained the rights to new entertainment inspired by the irreverent “Twisted Whiskers,” featuring the “twisted” collection of cats and dogs from the greeting card line. Bill Kopp, the creative talent behind the original “Simpsons” shorts from “The Tracey Ullman Show,” as well as the initial online “Twisted Whiskers” shorts, will help oversee creative direction of the new series.

Also included in the agreement is the preschool property “Maryoku Yummy.” Rights to “Strawberry Shortcake” carry over from the existing agreement.

The companies currently are preparing for the release of Oopsy Does It!, a new “Care Bears” movie due in theaters Aug. 4 and to be released on DVD this fall.

The “Care Bears” and “Strawberry Shortcake” franchises have generated $2 billion and $1.8 billion in retail sales, respectively, according to AGP.
