Amazon.com Puts Humpty Together Again

18 Dec, 2001 By: Hive News

Amazon.com today launched its new Egghead.com Web site, powered by Amazon.com's e-commerce platform with a little help from the U.S. bankruptcy court.

The shopping portal acquired most of Egghead.com's assets when it was a shell of its former self, in a bankruptcy proceeding earlier this year in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California.

"Egghead.com's consumer and business customers are fanatical about all things electronic, and we're pleased to continue providing them with the exceptional selection and service they've come to expect," said Steve Frazier, v.p. for Amazon.com's Electronics, Tools and Kitchen segment.

To celebrate today's relaunch, Egghead.com is offering "a significant number of" Nintendo GameCube systems available for sale exclusively to Egghead.com visitors, through Amazon.com's partnership with Toysrus.com. The GameCubes will go on sale sometime between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 19.

The new Egghead.com site features products organized under the familiar Amazon.com "store tabs" for electronics, computers, software, camera & photo, cell phones & service and computer & video games. Visitors to the Egghead.com site have access to all Amazon.com stores and product categories as well as Amazon.com's editorial and customer reviews, personalization and recommendation features, one-click ordering and other Amazon.com features.

Amazon.com executives promise to "comply fully with the commitments in Egghead.com's privacy policy, and no Egghead.com customer data will be disclosed to Amazon.com without the consent of those customers." Egghead.com's business customers may purchase through Amazon.com's Corporate Accounts program.
