Amazon has quietly begun enabling Prime Instant Video subscribers the ability to download select movies and TV shows to portable devices that can be viewed without an Internet connection. Compatible devices include Kindle Fire tablets, Fire mobile phone, Android and Apple iOS.

Jack Talley Alchemy Names Industry Veteran Jack Talley EVP of Disc Distribution

Responding to the growth of its physical home entertainment operation, Alchemy Sept. 1 announced the hiring of Jack Talley as EVP of physical distribution. Talley will oversee sales and overall strategy of Alchemy’s disc sales, reporting to CEO Bill Lee.

IHS: Pay-TV Lost 658,000 Video Subs in Q2

Cord-cutting has officially moved from speculation to reality. The pay-TV industry lost a collective 658,000 video subscribers in the most-recent fiscal quarter, according to new data from IHS. Notably, the period marked the first time non-cable pay-TV operators lost video subs since satellite operators entered the market in the early 1990s.

Vodafone Offering Netflix in Spain

Vodafone Spain Sept. 1 announced a deal that brings Netflix onto a Spanish TV platform for the first time. Netflix will be available via an app on the pay-TV service’s set-top box. The streaming service will also be available on smartphones and tablets.
