Amazon Eyeing Prime Price Increase

Amazon’s popular $79 Prime membership program could soon see a price hike by as much as $40 in the U.S., CFO Tom Szkutak said in a Jan. 30 call with analysts. The CFO said escalating fuel costs, increased product inclusions (now totaling 19 million items) and higher third-party license fees for movies and TV shows underscore the need for a hike — although no official decision has been made.

Viacom Thriving Despite Paramount Losses

Viacom's profit gain came despite a $74 million loss from the Paramount unit, which saw a 37% decrease in home entertainment revenues — driven by the absence of the major releases during the quarter — and a 52% drop in theatrical revenues, with the studio releasing only five titles in the last quarter, compared with eight a year ago.
