Akimbo Expands On-Demand Offerings24 Jan, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf
Video-on-demand service Akimbo is broadening its content offering with two new deals.
Akimbo — the world's largest VOD provider for users with Internet-connected TV sets with more than 8,000 titles available in 85 categories — will soon add content from the Anime Network's collection of animated films and TV programs from Japan.
With the Anime Network deal, Akimbo will offer viewers access to the network's hit shows like “DN Angel,” “Full Metal Panic!,” “Robotech” and “Samurai X.”
The companies did not specify an exact start date for the programming availability.
Meanwhile, Akimbo has also teamed up with National Lampoon Inc. to provide its original programming to subscribers.
National Lampoon operates the largest in-dorm campus television network, available at 600 colleges and universities across the country.
The deal with Akimbo marks the first time shows like “National Lampoon Gamers,” and other National Lampoon programs will be available off campuses for on-demand TV.
