Video-on-demand service Akimbo has added anime content from Geneon Entertainment Inc., starting with the show "Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo.”
Akimbo previously announced it would add anime from four other distributors, while Geneon last week added content to the Xbox Live Marketplace. The VOD service currently has more than 15,000 titles in more than 100 categories.
“Akimbo is keenly aware of the tremendous worldwide following Japanese anime has gained in recent years,” said Thomas F. Frank, Akimbo president and CEO. “That's why we've worked hard to amass a comprehensive collection of the best video available in the genre.”
Geneon received recognition as the 2006 Best Anime Company by the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation. Other popular anime shows from Geneon such as “Last Exile” and “Lupin the 3rd” will follow on Akimbo in the coming weeks.
