A Multimillion-Dollar Image25 Mar, 2002 By: Hive News
Spring has really sprung for Image Entertainment Inc., which shipped its 10 millionth exclusive DVD in March. The milestone is special, said a spokesperson, because the company has changed gears quickly, going from a laserdisc supplier with $100 million in sales to the leading supplier of music DVD programming with a 26 percent market share.
"Our business is in overdrive, and I am confident that the sale of our 20 millionth exclusive DVD will take place much faster than did our 10 millionth," said Martin W. Greenwald, Image's president and CEO. "With our international home video distribution arm firmly in place, and our ability to acquire and exploit all rights, including broadcast and audio, we are positioned to release approximately 500 titles this year."
Since DVD's inception, Image has released 1,791 exclusive titles on the format, among them the bestselling music DVD of all time, the acclaimed live performance Eagles: Hell Freezes Over, said a spokesperson. Image has also released music DVDs from such artists as Steely Dan, Christina Aguilera, Sheryl Crow and The Who and a variety of Broadway performances, silent films, foreign films, cult horror movies and TV series.
With the exception of manufacturing discs and printing, all of Image's DVD work is done at their Chatsworth, Calif., headquarters. Distribution is handled from its wholly owned 76,000-square-foot facility in Las Vegas, Nev.
