A 'Little' Something DTV5 Dec, 2005 By: Jessica Wolf
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is ready for another “Little” adventure in the New Year.
Arriving on DVD Feb. 21, 2006 (prebook Jan. 19), is the direct-to-video Stuart Little 3: Call of the Wild ($24.94).
For the first “Stuart Little” adventure in three years, Sony got all the original actors to provide voices in this animated installment, including Michael J. Fox, Virginia Madsen, Peter MacNicol, and Hugh Laurie and Geena Davis as Mr. and Mrs. Little, both of whom have hot dramas on TV right now (“House” and “Commander in Chief,” respectively).
“Stuart is beloved — this character has been around for 50 years — his books are read in schools, and I think anybody that was attached to the movies has a real fondness for him,” said Suzanne White, VP of marketing for Sony. “He has really strong appeal, and I think that's why they were able to get everyone to come back.”
Gearing up for the new “Stuart Little,” Sony will re-release the first two movies on DVD Jan. 19 with the Stuart Little Deluxe Edition and Stuart Little 2 DVDs ($19.94 each). Both releases will be packaged with a Stuart Little 3 bonus disc containing a sneak peek at the new adventure. The bonus disc also includes a lesson in “How to Draw a Snowball” and “Reeko's Funk” music video, featuring the new skunk character voiced by Wayne Brady.
Bonus features on the Stuart Little 3 DVD include a read-along journal that tells the story of Call of the Wild, a learn-to-draw feature that offers step-by-step instructions on how to create the characters from the movie, and interactive games.
“The read-along and learn-to-draw features are great co-viewing for parents to enjoy with their kids,” White said.
Sony has teamed up with Wendy's Restaurants to promote Stuart Little 3. Goodies themed to the movie will come in Wendy's kid's meal bags, along with a $4 discount coupon for the DVD. Another promotion with Legoland will offer a discount on admission for up to six guests.
