2002 AVN Show Attendance Up 38 Percent17 Jan, 2002 By: Hive News
Record crowds of both exhibitors and fans attended the 2002 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo January 9 to 12 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.
Overall Expo attendance was up 38 percent and fan attendance at the show was up 26 percent, with more than 15,000 fan attendees and 6,500 industry professionals among the approximately 23,000 show visitors. Exhibitors totaled 179, up 16 percent from 2001.
"The AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, like the adult entertainment industry, continues to grow and generate strong consumer support," said Carrie Dieterich, VSDA VP of Marketing and Industry Relations. "Most interesting this year was the amount of general interest media attention the show generated."
The 2002 Adult Entertainment Expo kicked off with a ribbon-cutting featuring Digital Playground's contract star Tera Patrick and show organizer representatives Tom Warren, chairman of the VSDA, and Don Rosenberg, Advanstar Communications/Home Entertainment Events group video director. Among the drawing cards were a trade seminar on adult industry legal issues and two popular evening events.
"It was a very successful and productive show, which is reflective of how strong a year it's been for the adult home video industry," said Home Entertainment Events/Advanstar show director Mary Thompson. "The exhibitors offered both trade and fan attendees a very exciting show and exhibitors were very happy with the heavy and packed crowds on the show floor and the amount of business they were doing."
The show is produced by Home Entertainment Events, a joint venture of the Video Software Dealers Association and Advanstar Communications, Inc. Longstanding principal sponsors VCA Pictures, Vivid Entertainment Group and Wicked Pictures returned in support of the show.
