Time magazine has named Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos to its 2013 list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

In Time 100, the publication ranked Sarandos among the top 20 “titans” of the year — a list that includes Lebron James, Google’s Sheryl Sandberg and fashion executive Michael Kors. Other categories include artists, leaders, pioneers and icons.

Time’s tribute to Sarandos — who joined Netflix in 2000 — was written by actor Jeffrey Tambor, who stars in Netflix’s revival of former quirky Fox TV comedy “Arrested Development,” which begins streaming on Netflix May 26.

Separately, the Entertainment Merchants Association issued a statement congratulating Sarandos for making the list.

“This recognition highlights not only Ted's achievements, but also the importance of home video in the entertainment industry and our culture,” the EMA said.
