To facilitate streaming movies and TV programming, Netflix March 25 said it began shipping initial batches of upgrade discs to subscribers who own a Nintendo Wii game system.
In an e-mail to affected subscribers, Netflix said the discs, which will allow Wii users to stream through Netflix if they are subscribers, will hit mailboxes by March 26.
Netflix and Nintendo in January first announced the deal that would also give Netflix subscribers access to downloadable new and classic games in the Wii Shop Channel, online multiplayer gaming with titles such as Mario Kart Wii, video highlights and information about titles for the Wii and Nintendo DS systems via the Nintendo Channel.
The Los Gatos, Calif.-based Netflix, which has similar streaming deals with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3 systems, does not rent video games.
