CEO Reed Hastings and CFO David Wells to field questions submitted in advance via email and Twitter and moderated by analysts

Netflix is again breaking protocol when it releases second-quarter (ended June 30) financial results July 22 with a live video discussion moderated by Wall Street analysts.

Following release of the fiscal results and accompanying investor letter at 1:05 p.m. P.T., the Los Gatos, Calif.-based streaming pioneer will supplant the usual earning call with a live video discussion at 3 p.m. P.T., moderated by analyst Richard Greenfield with BTIG Research in New York, and Julia Boorstin, financial host with CNBC.

Questions can be submitted in advance via email or twitter to rgreenfield@btig.com /@RichBTIG, or Julia.boorstin@nbcuni.com / @JBoorstin.

In the past, question were submitted via email to Erin Kasenchak, director of investor relations, who read them out loud for either Hastings or Wells to answer via webcast. That format differed from the typical earnings call in which analysts call in with questions for senior management.

In a note, Janney analyst Tony Wilbe said the new format portends a positive quarter for Netflix.

"It's an unprecedented format, and not one you would do if you had bad news," Wible wrote.
