Netflix Offers UFC Fights in Latin America

6 Jun, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Netflix June 6 said it is bowing recent and catalog Ultimate Fighting Championship fights to subscribers in Latin America. Members will be able to watch a wide variety of recent and classic UFC events, highlights series and the documentary "Bad Blood."

Los Gatos, Calif.-based Netflix has typically avoids sports programming believing the genre to be outside the interest of its subscriber base. That mindset is changing, as the subscription video-on-demand pioneer expands internationally.

The new UFC content will include a range of fights and shows that feature some of the sports' biggest names, including Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, B.J. Penn, Lyoto Machida, George St. Pierre and Uriah Faber. Popular UFC compilation series will also be added, including selections from "100 Greatest Moments" and "Ultimate Heavyweights," beginning June 20.

“We've been working with the UFC for some time to bring their world leading premium content to our members in Latin America,” said Jason Ropell, Netflix VP of content acquisition. “We're thrilled to be able to give our members an offering of UFC content ranging from classic fights, and popular compilations, to very recent events, some as recent as 90 days from the live event.”
