Netflix to Offer Multi-User Profiles on Single Family Account

12 Jun, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Netflix later this summer will begin tracking separate user profiles (five or six, still to be determined) on a single family account, thereby allowing members (kids and adults) to generate personalized content recommendations.

Netflix is showcasing the technology at E3 gaming confab in Los Angeles, according to spokesperson Joris Evers.

The prototype user interface generates an avatar (which could change at launch) for each user on the account featuring separate rental history and content recommendations, according to Todd Yellin, VP of product innovation at Netflix, who is showcasing the technology at E3.

"We're finally launching it this summer," Yellin told Engadget.com.

Netflix still only allows two users on an account at the same time to stream on separate devices. The SVOD pioneer is also working on creating a software app that would allow subscribers to remote control their TV and Netflix account wirelessly from an iPhone or Android device.
