Netflix Names Warner Executive New Marketing Chief

23 Jul, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Netflix July 23 named Kelly Bennett as its new chief marketing officer, replacing interim CMO Jessie Becker.

Becker assumed the position in January after Leslie Kilgore stepped down following 12 years as the streaming rental service’s only CMO. Kilgore retained her position on the board.

Bennett is a nine-year veteran of Warner Bros., where he most recently served as VP of interactive and worldwide marketing — spearheading international online campaigns for "Harry Potter," "Sherlock Holmes" movies, and the just-released The Dark Knight Rises.

“Kelly has been a pioneer in developing incredible digital campaigns for some of the biggest box office hits in recent years,” Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said in a statement.

Bennett, who reports to Hastings in Los Gatos, Calif., ran digital marketing for Warner Bros. Pictures in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and worked in promotion and business development for the company. Additionally, he has held executive positions at Dow Jones International, Ignition Media and served as partner at the online marketing agency Cimex Media, all based in London.

Canadian-born Bennett is a graduate of Simon Fraser University.

Netflix reports second-quarter financial results July 24.
