Netflix Hires New G-Man1 Dec, 2011 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Netflix Dec. 1 said it has hired Christopher Libertelli to head its global governmental relations department in Washington, D.C.
Libertelli, who spearheaded a similar department for IP telecommunications service, Skype, for the past seven years, takes over a department established in 2010 under the direction of Michael Drobac.
Drobac is leaving Netflix to launch his own public service and health care start-up, according to a statement.
Libertelli’s arrival comes at a time when Netflix is in the midst of an ambitious global expansion of its streaming service, in addition to dealing with regulatory issues such as net neutrality and usage-based data caps, among others.
Prior to joining Skype in 2005, Libertelli served as senior legal advisor to the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission and an associate at Dow, Lohnes & Albertson. He received his J.D. in communications law from Boston University.
