Netflix Goth Thriller ‘Hemlock Grove’ Bows April 1910 Jan, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Netflix’s Gothic thriller, “Hemlock Grove” will launch all 13 episodes April 19 — the subscription video-on-demand service’s third original series.
The show from executive producer Eli Roth marks the first foray into television by acclaimed horror master Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever), who also directed the first episode. It stars Famke Janssen (X-Men), Bill Skarsgård (Simon & The Oaks), Landon Liboiron (Terra Nova), Penelope Mitchell (6 Plots), Freya Tingley (X) and Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible II) will debut concurrently in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Latin America, Brazil and Scandinavia.
The series revolves around the eccentric residents of a dilapidated former Pennsylvania steel town and the murder of 17-year-old Brooke Bluebell. Through the investigation, the town's seamier side is exposed, revealing that nothing is what it seems.
"'Hemlock Grove' is unlike anything else in its genre," said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer with Netflix. "It's sexy, gripping, emotional and twisted, and we're certain viewers are going to be captivated by its intensity."
Netflix, which is allocating upwards of 15% annual operating costs producing original content, next month launches the second season of “Lilyhammer” and debut of “House of Cards” with Kevin Spacey and directed (select episodes) by David Fincher.
