Animation show from DreamWorks Animation represents Netflix first original series for children based on motion picture
Netflix Dec. 3 said it will launch “Turbo Fast,” its first original episodic series for children, on Dec. 24. Families will be able to stream the first five episodes of the DreamWorks Animation-created show with additional all-new episodes premiering throughout the year.
The series, which is based on DreamWorks Animation’s $280 million feature film, Turbo, digs deeper into the crazy personalities of the snail crew and features 2D design to create a stylized look reflective of the Stunt Team's fast-paced, souped-up world. Stunt team members include Turbo, Whiplash, Burn, Smoove Move, White Shadow, Skidmark and Chet.
Reid Scott ("Veep") lends his voice to the show's title character, and comedian Ken Jeong ("The Hangover" franchise) reprises his role from the feature film as the manicurist turned home shopping icon Kim Ly.
"We are excited to be working with the gifted storytellers at DreamWorks Animation to deliver 'Turbo Fast,' to families around the world this holiday season," Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix, said in a statement. "With new episodes on their way in the coming months, kids will have something to look forward to all year."
