Los Angeles-based distributor Vision Films Aug. 23 announced it would donate a portion of DVD, Blu-ray Disc and VOD sales from music documentary Hired Gun: Out of the Shadows, Into the Spotlight to Recording Academy charity MusiCares.

The doc is about session and touring musicians who are hired by well-established acts such as Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Metallica, KISS, Billy Joel, Pink and Gwen Stefani, among others. These bassists, drummers, guitarists, producers and songwriters help create music for well-known artists while receiving little attention for themselves.

Hired Gun was released by Vision Films theatrically in June in the United States in partnership with Fathom Events, and released Aug. 1 on Blu-ray, DVD and VOD by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Vision Films also created subtitles in 26 languages to release the doc Sept. 15 globally on several VOD platforms. Hired Gun reportedly has been Amazon’s top choice in music documentaries for four consecutive weeks.

“This film truly shows us how powerful music can be, and we are honored to have this opportunity to use this film to support this worthy organization,” Lise Romanoff, CEO of Vision Films, said in a statement.
