4 Sep, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey

Microsoft will launch its next-generation gaming console to 13 markets worldwide Nov. 22, the company announced Sept. 4. The Xbox One will retail for $499.

The launch will come one week after Sony debuts its competing PlayStation 4, priced at $399.

“The culmination of many years of listening to you, our fans, developing innovative technology, and partnering with the best game and entertainment partners in the industry has brought us to this point,” Yusuf Mehdi, corporate VP of marketing, strategy and business for Xbox, said in a statement. “There is still a lot more work to do, but the teams are making excellent progress and are focused on launch.”

Microsoft is offering preorders of the console at its own online store and via Amazon.

The Xbox One will be available in the United States, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom. Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland will see the console in early 2014.

The Xbox One features a Blu-ray Disc drive, a 500 GB hard drive, second screen, voice- and motion-control features, and WiFi.
