Lionsgate Looks to IDC for Latin America Distribution24 Sep, 2012 By: Chris Tribbey
International Distribution Co. (IDC) will begin distributing Lionsgate titles in Latin America, thanks to a new agreement.
IDC, a joint venture between Summit Entertainment and NuVision founder Pedro Rodriguez, has been distributing Summit titles in Latin America since 2005. Lionsgate acquired Summit in January.
“In Latin America we are building upon Summit’s longstanding venture with Pedro Rodriguez and his team at IDC, who have unparalleled expertise in the region,” Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman, co-chairs of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement. “IDC’s results for our Summit titles in the past have been outstanding and the quality of its distribution first class. By adding our own Lionsgate films and expanding our partnership with IDC, we believe that we can replicate the success we have achieved through self-distribution in the United Kingdom.”
The agreement has Lionsgate International Television handling sales of TV, subscription VOD and electronic sellthrough product throughout the region.
“I have worked closely with Patrick, Rob and the rest of their team on the ‘Twilight’ franchise and other Summit films, and we’re thrilled to expand our venture to encompass Lionsgate product as well,” Rodriguez said. “Lionsgate has emerged as a major force in the global marketplace, and we're pleased to have a pipeline of some of the most commercially exciting films in the world to bring to our audiences throughout Latin America.”
