Lionsgate Launches ‘Dirty Dancing’ Game

14 Sep, 2011 By: Chris Tribbey

One of the more popular movie sites on Facebook is getting its own game.

The Dirty Dancing Facebook game has players managing Kellerman's Resort, where they’re tasked with getting guests to fall in love and extend their stay. As fans progress through the game they’re joined by characters from the film, can provide guests with dances and activities, and listen to music from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack.

"We set out to create a game that not only captures the essence and aesthetic of the Dirty Dancing film, but also breaks new ground in social gaming," said Nathon Gunn, CEO of Social Game Universe. "This is the first social game in which spreading love and romance is the main goal — and it's a lot more fun to do that with the help of your Facebook friends."

The Dirty Dancing Facebook page has nearly 11 million fans, mostly women ages 20 to 50.

“For the past 24 years, Dirty Dancing has been a top iconic brand, and now with almost 11 million Facebook fans, it is a top 10 social media entertainment property,” said Curt Marvis, Lionsgate’s president of digital media. “Our mainly female audience is highly engaged with this property, and will drive it to become one of the most successful social media games.”
