Hiring of MGM veteran Laurence Szabo underscores minimajor’s desire to increase incremental revenue from TV and movie properties in the rapidly expanding digital space

Lionsgate has named Laurence Szabo to the position of EVP of North American Television Sales, reporting to Jim Packer, president of worldwide television distribution and digital operations, in Santa Monica, Calif.

Szabo, an 18-year veteran with MGM’s worldwide television group, will be responsible for generating incremental revenue opportunities for Lionsgate’s TV content across all digital platforms, including pay TV, digital TV, and subscription and ad-supported video-on-demand.

Lionsgate co-owns pay-TV channel Epix with MGM and Paramount Pictures. The minimajor’s notable TV properties include “Mad Men,” “Weeds,” “Nurse Jackie,” “Running Wilde” and “Blue Mountain State.”

Szabo, who held a number of international home entertainment-related positions with MGM, also will coordinate distribution of Lionsgate’s movies in Canada with Alliance Films, including in the home entertainment channel.
