Lionsgate: 3M Units of ‘The Expendables’ Sold in First Week2 Dec, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Lionsgate Dec. 2 said it sold 3 million units of The Expendables in packaged media and transactional video-on-demand (VOD) in the title's first week of release. The figures suggest consumers aren’t weary of middle-age action heroes.
Co-written and directed by Sylvester Stallone and featuring Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Terry Crews and Mickey Rourke along with cameos by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, The Expendables generated more than $103 million at the domestic box office ($263 million globally).
The film also topped Home Media Magazine's weekly rental chart.
“We fully expect this movie to have long legs after its powerful home entertainment debut and be a top-seller through the holidays and beyond,” said EVP and GM Ron Schwartz.
