12 Jul, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel

LG Electronics will this month begin offering at retail a series of LED HDTV models featuring its first 3D-capable network Blu-ray Disc player.

The LG Infinia LX9500 and LX6500 series models come paired with the BX580 Network Blu-ray Disc player and custom 3D eyewear. Both units are available in 55 and 47-inch size screens. The 9500 features a 480Hz refresh rate, LED local dimming and 2D THX certification, while the 6500 includes a 240Hz refresh rate, which enables the TV to keep up with fast moving scenes.

Consumers who purchase an LG LX9500 or LX6500 unit paired with the 3D Blu-ray player will receive two free pairs of the 3D active shutter glasses, a $100 instant rebate and a coupon to receive Warner Home Video’s 3D title Under the Sea 3D by mail.

Both models also offer wireless connectivity (via separate adaptor) that enable viewers to access online entertainment options, including Netflix movie streams (subscription required), Vudu transactional video-on-demand movies, YouTube videos, MLB.TV (subscription required), Picassa photo library and Yahoo widgets delivering news, weather and finance, in addition to content from CBS, Showtime and CNBC, among others.

“Demand for 3D technology is growing by the day, and as more content becomes available in the 3D format, this demand will continue to increase,” said Peter Reiner, SVP of marketing for LG Electronics USA. “LG is now providing consumers with ‘something better’ in 3D.”
