Walmart Settles DVD Rental Lawsuit

31 Aug, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Walmart has reportedly settled an antitrust lawsuit that alleged the retail behemoth entered into an unethical agreement with Netflix several years ago when it exited the online DVD rental business.

Reuters reports Walmart agreed to pay an undisclosed amount to exit litigation brought by eight Netflix subscribers who claim that when Walmart gave its DVD subscriber list to Netflix, the online DVD rental pioneer agreed to not sell DVDs, in addition to artificially maintaining higher rental prices.

Netflix, which has never sold DVDs, said in an Aug. 30 court filing that it intends to continue arguing the merits of the case.
