Judge Dismisses Suit Against Nintendo11 Jun, 2009 By: Eui-jo Marquez
A U.S. District Court judge June 8 dismissed a patent-infringement lawsuit brought against Nintendo by Guardian Media Technologies, Ltd.
Guardian alleged the Wii console infringed on one of its patents (U.S. Patent No. 4,930,158), but Judge Manuel Real, of the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, granted a motion of non-infringement less than six months after the lawsuit was filed.
“We are very pleased with the Court’s decision,” said Rick Flamm, Nintendo of America’s SVP of legal and general counsel. “Nintendo vigorously defends patent lawsuits. At the earliest stages of this case, Nintendo convinced the Court to dismiss this case as Guardian’s patent had nothing to do with Nintendo’s products.”
