The Wait is Ogre this Holiday Season as ‘Shrek’ Arrives in Its Entirety

Consumers this holiday season will be able to own one of the biggest franchises in movie history. 

Paramount Home Entertainment is packaging all four of DreamWorks Animation SKG’s “Shrek” movies into a collectible gift set and releasing it the same day the fourth film in the animated franchise arrives on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Industry observers anticipate this will be one of the biggest releases in the fourth quarter.

The entire saga, Shrek: The Whole Story, will be available in stores Dec. 7, the same day Shrek Forever After debuts on disc. “Shrek” is the most successful animated franchise of all time, with a worldwide theatrical gross of nearly $3 billion. 

The four-disc gift set that is over a decade in the making includes hours of new extras, including a brand new holiday program, “Donkey’s Christmas Shrektacular,” that will only be available for a limited time. This new holiday classic features all the beloved characters singing classic holiday songs with Shrek-ized lyrics, and also includes a feature called “Shrek’s Yule Log,” with more than 25 character appearances in front of a crackling virtual fireplace.

Shrek: The Whole Story carries a suggested list price of $34.99 on DVD and $49.99 on Blu-ray Disc.

Shrek Forever After, one of the top 10 films of this year with a worldwide box office gross of more than $735million, will also be available on its own in both a DWA signature double DVD pack and a DVD/Blu-ray Disc combo pack. “Donkey’s Christmas Shrektacular” also will be included, along with such extras as a “12 Days of Christmas” pop-up book, deleted scenes, interactive games, a preview of “Shrek the Musical” and an insider’s look at the film.
