Oscilloscope Laboratories will bring the Academy Award-nominated film The Messenger to DVD and Blu-ray Disc May 18 (order date April 6).

The film tells the story of Iraq War veteran Will Montgomery (Ben Foster) who is assigned to the Army’s casualty notification service and partnered with hard-line officer played by Woody Harrelson. Will ends up falling for the wife (Samantha Morton) of a dead soldier. Steve Buscemi and Jena Malone also star.

The film has grossed about $900,000 in limited theatrical release. Oscar nominations went to Harrelson for best supporting actor and co-writers Alessandro Camon and Oren Moverman for best original screenplay.

The DVD ($29.98) and Blu-ray ($34.98) versions will include commentary, behind-the-scenes footage, a documentary about the notification process and a Q&A with the cast and crew. The DVD also includes a copy of the shooting script. The Blu-ray version will be a combo pack that also includes the DVD. The discs will come in Oscilloscope’s trademark recyclable cardboard packaging, which includes an eight-panel gatefold and slipcase.
