New Historic Baseball DVDs Due May 26

18 Mar, 2009 By: John Latchem

A&E Home Entertainment and Shout! Factory are each preparing new DVD compilations of some of the greatest moments in Major League Baseball history.

A&E May 26 (prebook April 28) releases Perfect Games and No-Hitters: The New York Yankees Essential Games of Yankee Stadium Vol. II at $49.95. The six-DVD set includes six complete broadcasts of six games in which Yankee pitchers dominated opposing hitters. The centerpiece of the collection is Don Larsen’s perfect game from the 1956 World Series, a complete copy of which was only recently discovered. The game includes play-by-play commentary by broadcasting legends Mel Allen and Vin Scully, plus an alternate audio track of Bob Wolf’s play-by-play.

Also included are perfect games by David Wells in 1998 and David Cone in 1999. No-hitters in the collection include Dave Righetti’s in 1983, Jim Abbott’s no-hitter in 1993 and Dwight Godden’s in 1996. Abbott’s is especially notable considering he was born with only one hand.

Also May 26, Shout! Factory releases Phillies Memories: The Greatest Moments in Philadelphia Phillies History. The $19.99 DVD chronicles the history of the team from the first pitch thrown in 1883 to the franchise’s World Series victory in 2008.

Extras include “Legendary Last Outs”; “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” with Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard; a Rollins and Howard house tour; five last outs of no-hitters; extended interviews; and “Larry Anderson Sprays on Fake Hair.”
